When a sneaker company calls its own shoes weird, you know it’s gonna be good. On Running’s amusingly-named Cloudmonster earns its intimidating moniker with a giant sole unit that towers over all other On silhouettes.
On describes the Cloudmonster’s on-feet feel as “running on clouds with the volume up full.” Pretty promising.
It’s a hard descriptor to challenge without getting one of these bad boys in hand but, boy, if ever there was a sneaker that looks capable of keeping your feet cushioned, the Cloudmonster is it.
Currently available via On Running’s website and stores for $169.99, the Cloudmonster is On’s most cushioned shoe ever.
I wish the Swedish company would’ve broken down the Birdies Shoes Cloud volume in numbers (i.e. how much more Cloud does this shoe have over the other On runners?) but, then again, one look at the Cloudmonster makes it clear that this thing has softness to spare, thanks to On’s proprietary Helion superfoam.
But there’s more under the hood, including the Speedboard plate that’s in all of On’s other running sneakers and about the recycled materials that make up about 30% of the Cloudmonster’s overall design.
Sure, it’s not wholly sustainable but that’s better than nothing, I suppose.
On has been making some decidedly progressive kicks recently, a far cry from the classy daily drivers it designed for Roger Federer.
Recent standouts include On’s collaborative LOEWE sneakers and super subtle Cloudultra Nite, each taking its funky-looking kicks to stylish new zeniths — no wonder On’s shoes have been in high demand over the past year.
